FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you make money?

Instead of taking money from you, we are paid solely by affiliates — title companies, lawyers, and lenders — who choose to partner with our site. While you do not have to use our affiliates services, when you do, SideDoor looks good, and you sell your house with some awesome help. And that’s a win for everyone.

What makes you different than Zillow?

We despise realtors and brokers. Okay, despise is a strong word, but we don’t allow realtors or brokers on our site. Zillow and other similar sites pull homes from the Multiple Listing Service (MLS), and we are solely a For Sale by Owner site. Power to the people!

Why can’t I have an agent and list with you?

Actually, you can, as long as you don’t have an exclusive right to sell with your agent. And if you sell through SideDoor, you don’t have to pay your agent.

Will my listing go on the MLS?

No, we are not part of the MLS. To be a part of it requires us to be a brokerage and that would not give you the best experience as a consumer. We are trying to change the broken system and don’t want to be a part of it.

Can I list on the MLS and still be on SideDoor?

There are many sites that represent For Sale by Owners that will list you for a couple hundred bucks. You can still list with us if you do as it isn’t an exclusive right to sell.

How can SideDoor help market me?

From our thousands of followers on social media to our blog posts, SideDoor is there for you every step of the way. Feel free to email us at any time with questions on how to improve your home for sale — we love to help! Also keep us posted on when you have open houses, and we will blast it out to our followers! We do everything a realtor does, but we don’t represent you (or take your money), we just want to help and support you.

How do you verify buyers’ pre-approvals?

In order to schedule a showing at your house, buyers have to upload a pre-approval to their dashboard. This is typically good for 90 days and we do that as a security feature to ensure that you only have serious buyers. This saves you time, and time is cash money.

How many areas are you in?

We are currently in the Boulder–Denver area, from Colorado Springs to Fort Collins. This spring we are planning to head out to Chicago and can’t wait to expand across the country. Where do you want us next? Tell us here.

How do you save the buyer agent commission?

SideDoor completely supports those buying and selling on their own. This means that each side of the transaction will be represented completely by the individuals and their legal support (for $2000 or less). Therefore, any buyer who finds you on SideDoor will be agent-free.
